Commvault pivots from backup to AI-era resilience model 

Commvault is strategically shifting its focus from traditional backup to a unified "ResOps" model aimed at operationalizing cyber resilience across data, identity, and recovery workflows in AI-driven environments, according to SiliconANGLE. 

The company asserts that as AI agents and cloud-native architectures accelerate data and identity changes, resilience requires more than just file restoration; it demands securing data, protecting identity, and recovering clean, trusted systems. A core technical innovation is synthetic recovery, which uses AI to analyze historical changes, isolate infected objects, and reconstruct a clean, validated dataset for restoration, a process Chief Product Officer Poojan Kumar says must be "one single click."

Identity resilience is a critical pillar, providing visibility into non-human AI agents and the ability to recover entire identity platforms. Commvault is also extending protection to AI data pipelines with solutions like Clumio for Apache Iceberg and introducing conversational AI interfaces for system management. The platform strategy emphasizes integration with partners like Platform9 and Kyndryl to combat tool sprawl, positioning Commvault as a resilience control plane.
