A new Fortinet report reveals that despite increased cybersecurity spending, most organizations lack confidence in their ability to manage escalating cloud threats, with two-thirds doubting their capacity for real-time detection and response, according to Security Boulevard.

The 2026 Cloud Security Report identifies a critical "complexity gap" driven by hybrid and multi-cloud adoption, with 88% of organizations operating in such environments. This complexity is compounded by a severe skills shortage, as 74% report not having enough qualified cybersecurity professionals. The study further notes that 70% of security teams struggle with tool sprawl and visibility gaps, a problem exacerbated as attackers leverage AI automation to operate at machine speed.

Industry experts warn that simply adding more disconnected tools is an ineffective strategy. Noma Security CISO Diana Kelley stated the current approach "is failing," while ColorTokens' Agnidipta Sarkar emphasized that questions are shifting from what tools were adopted to why defenses remain fragmented. Reflecting this, 64% of respondents indicated a preference for a single-vendor security platform over point solutions, signaling a move towards integrated ecosystems to combat structural complexity.
