F5 and Oracle announce plans to integrate security tools on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure

F5 Inc. and Oracle Corp. have announced a strategic plan to integrate F5's web application and application programming interface protection services into Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, according to Silicon Angle.

The collaboration, currently based on a nonbinding memorandum of understanding, aims to help organizations defend critical applications against sophisticated threats. By embedding F5's security technology directly into the cloud environment, the companies intend to assist teams that lack specialized in-house security expertise. F5 Chief Marketing Officer John Maddison noted that artificial intelligence-powered attacks exploit vulnerabilities faster than traditional patching cycles.

Consequently, the integration will focus on AI runtime defense, allowing for virtual patching to shield systems while permanent fixes are developed. While Oracle already maintains its own web application firewall service to mitigate threats like SQL injection and distributed denial-of-service attacks, the companies have not yet clarified how F5's tools will complement existing offerings.

The two firms have a history of cooperation dating back to 2001, primarily involving application delivery for enterprise software. Although F5 recently reported a 13% revenue increase to $917 million, neither company provided a specific timeline for the integration or disclosed pricing details for the forthcoming security features.
