Major luxury hotel and casino operator Wynn Resorts has admitted to the compromise of its employees' data following an attack by the ShinyHunters hacking group, while emphasizing that there has not been any indication of further misuse after hackers claimed to have deleted the stolen information, The Register reports.ShinyHunters' purported confirmation of having erased data pilfered from Wynn Resorts suggests possible ransom payment, according to Huntress Senior Manager of Security Operations Dray Agha."An attacker providing an assurance of deletion is a classic hallmark of a completed extortion negotiation," said Agha, who also warned of the prevalence of data copy retention and sale among threat actors amid a lack of a reliable mechanism to verify data removal claims.Such uncertainty was noted by Agha to be evident in Wynn Resorts' offer of complimentary credit monitoring and identity protection services to all of its employees in the wake of the intrusion.
