Qilin claims massive Habib Bank AG Zurich breach

Switzerland-based international bank Habib Bank AG Zurich had over 2.5 TB of data purportedly stolen by the Qilin ransomware group, Cybernews reports.

Analysis of a sample of the almost 2 million files allegedly pilfered by Qilin included Habib Bank AG Zurich customers' bank account balances and usage notifications that revealed transaction amounts and locations, and passport numbers, as well as its internal tools' source codes.

"Due to the broad scope of the potential breach, it is important for Habib Bank to act quickly in order to identify exactly what data was affected, inform affected customers, and audit the stolen source code for potential vulnerabilities, employ stricter monitoring of their servers and other services to detect any further attempted attacks," said Cybernews researchers.

More than 950 organizations have already been compromised by Qilin, which was recently reported to have partnered with the DragonForce and LockBit ransomware gangs, since 2023, according to Cybernews' Ransomlooker tool.
