Minnesota man admits involvement in betting platform hack

Infosecurity Magazine reports that Nathan Austad, a Minnesota resident, has pleaded guilty in a large-scale credential stuffing attack that targeted a fantasy sports and betting platform, compromising over 60,000 user accounts.

Austad, also known as "Snoopy," has admitted to conspiring to commit computer intrusion. He is the third individual linked to the campaign to enter a guilty plea. Prosecutors said Austad and his co-conspirators used stolen login credentials in November 2022 to access accounts, often adding payment methods and draining funds. About $600,000 was stolen from roughly 1,600 victims, and access to compromised accounts was sold online. He also ran an online shop selling hijacked accounts and controlled cryptocurrency accounts receiving around $465,000 in digital assets.

Investigators found messages showing he knew of law enforcement attention and recognized the illegal nature of the scheme. While the platform is unnamed, the facts match DraftKings' report of a credential stuffing attack affecting 68,000 accounts. Austad faces a maximum of five years in prison, with sentencing set for April 10, 2026.
