Costs associated with the Maricopa County Community College District (MCCCD) data breach that occurred in April 2013 continue to rise and have nearly reached the $20 million mark.
In addition to the numerous costs already in place, the MCCD governing board recently approved $2.3 million that will be allocated toward the law firm of Greenberg Traurig, which will handle two class-action lawsuits filed over the incident which impacted nearly 2.5 million individuals, according to a recent report by The Republic.
In addition to the costs for lawyers' fees, the board also approved $300,000 for use toward records management, which makes the total approved cost of fees allocated toward dealing with the data breach close to $20 million.
In November MCCCD disclosed the incident which resulted in compromised personal information belonging to students, former students, employees and vendors.
