A French mobile provider, Orange, admitted that the personal information of 800,000 customers was breached in mid-January.
The unknown attackers acquired customers' names, addresses, email addresses, phone numbers, and detailed account information, such as household composition and number of subscriptions held. About three percent of Orange's clients were affected, according to PCInpact.
The hackers attained the information through the company's “My Account” page. Orange shut down the portal to users' accounts immediately when the breach was identified and is contacting those affected.
All customers were warned of potential phishing attacks in the days after the breach and reminded that Orange will never contact them by email or text to ask for passwords or credit card numbers.
