F5 launches major update with expanded API security, discovery

Application delivery and security provider F5 has unveiled a major update to its platform, version 7.0 of F5 Distributed Cloud Services, significantly expanding API discovery, threat detection, and networking tools for hybrid and multi-cloud environments, Security Brief United Kingdom reports.

The release is centered on providing unified visibility and control over APIs, which the company acknowledges now power core enterprise architectures, by extending discovery capabilities to its BIG-IP, NGINX, and third-party gateways like Kong and Apigee. Chief Product Officer Kunal Anand stated the goal is to "collapse complexity," giving teams control over bot defense, cloud-native operations, and connectivity in a single platform.

New security features enhance detection for threats outlined in the OWASP API Top 10, focusing on authorization flaws, while bot defense updates offer more granular policy control and improved investigation tools. For operational and networking needs, the update adds modernized service discovery for Kubernetes, enhanced role-based access, and expanded networking features, including automated secure tunnels and BGP routing controls, positioning Distributed Cloud Services as an increasingly central component of F5's broader security and delivery strategy.
