Bleeping Computer reports that Dutch authorities have arrested a 40-year-old man for computer trespassing and attempted extortion after he refused to delete confidential police documents that were mistakenly shared with him.The incident began when a police officer intended to send a link for the man to upload images related to an investigation but instead mistakenly shared a download link to sensitive police files. The man downloaded the documents, and when instructed to delete them, he allegedly demanded "something in return."Dutch police stated that knowingly downloading files from an incorrect link constitutes computer trespass, especially when instructed not to access the materials. Authorities searched the suspect's residence, seizing data storage devices, though they currently have no indication the files were distributed further. Dutch police emphasized that individuals receiving misdirected confidential information have a legal obligation to report the error and refrain from accessing or retaining the data.Source: Bleeping Computer
