Allegedly stolen Indian Volkswagen dealership data up for sale

Hackers have been peddling data purportedly pilfered from Volkswagen Mandi, which is one of the leading German automaker's dealerships in India, according to Cybernews.

Allegedly included in the 2.5 million rows of stolen data, which seemingly originated from a customer relationship management backend, were customers' full names, phone numbers, email addresses, home addresses, and ZIP codes. While the veracity of the breach claims remains in question due to the limited data sample posted by attackers, such data could be leveraged for subsequent identity profiling, said Cybernews researchers.

"There is an increased risk of social engineering attacks for the affected people," researchers added. Such a development comes almost two months after the Qilin ransomware gang took responsibility for an attack against Volkswagen Group France that resulted in the theft of nearly 2,000 files with client, employee, and business details.

While Volkswagen Group was also claimed to have been compromised by the Stormous ransomware operation in June, such assertions were unsubstantiated.
