Alleged WorldLeaks breach of Nike under probe

Investigation into a possible data security incident has been launched by Nike after the WorldLeaks extortion group allegedly stole and exposed 1.4 TB of data obtained from the footwear and apparel giant's systems, Security Affairs reports.

WorldLeaks a rebrand of the Hunters International ransomware operation that had transitioned to data theft and extortion amid intensified law enforcement crackdowns published the data on Jan. 24, two days after it initially listed Nike among its victims.

"We always take consumer privacy and data security very seriously. We are investigating a potential cybersecurity incident and are actively assessing the situation," said Nike.

Such a development comes as fellow sportswear manufacturer Under Armour commenced a probe into a data breach following the inclusion of 72 million customer email addresses, which have been pilfered from an attack claimed by the Everest ransomware gang, on the Have I Been Pwned website.
