Yugabyte Cloud, a fully managed database-as-a-service that allows the creation of new cloud-based applications and migration of legacy applications to cloud platforms, has been launched by database developer Yugabyte, according to CRN.
Yugabyte Cloud provides developers with the cloud-based benefits of scalability and availability, said Yugabyte co-founder and Chief Technology Officer Karthik Ranganathan.
"Yugabyte Cloud is just another step in that evolution where we're making building cloud applications even more effortless," Ranganathan said.
Ranganathan noted that organizations are increasingly using the DBaaS to migrate legacy on-premise applications to the cloud or creating new cloud applications.
"Enterprises want to get into a situation where they can build a strong foundation to innovate and build even more applications, even more microservices, in the future. The first step is to modernize the applications and the database needs to be modernized with it," Ranganathan said.
In terms of security, Yugabyte Cloud deploys best practices for managing its cloud database and underlying infrastructure, with features that include daily backups, non-disruptive upgrades, database usage monitoring, logging and audit, continuous availability, data encryption, key rotation and identity and access management, the company said.
