Thousands of user profiles from the white supremacist dating website WhiteDate and two associated platforms have been breached and exposed by a security researcher known as Martha Root. The incident, revealed at the 39th Chaos Communication Congress (CCC) in Hamburg, has sparked debate within cybersecurity and political communities. Root published the leaked data on okstupid.lol, a satirical website, and the full dataset was archived by DDoSecrets, as reported by HackRead.com.The researcher, operating anonymously, infiltrated WhiteDate and utilized a custom AI chatbot for social engineering to extract over 8,000 user profiles and approximately 100 GB of data. The leaked information includes profile photos, bios, beliefs, internal communications, admin data, potential links to other accounts, and image metadata, some with GPS coordinates. The breach also affected the WhiteChild and WhiteDeal platforms. WhiteDate, which promoted white nationalist ideologies, failed to adequately secure its WordPress-hosted infrastructure, allowing Root to exploit vulnerabilities with minimal resistance. The site's domain went offline following the CCC event. While the site's owner has not formally responded, the incident raises questions about the accountability of such platforms and the potential for legal recourse. In Germany, where the CCC took place, the leak has been largely supported by antifascist circles, underscoring the ongoing tension between free speech and the prosecution of hate speech and extremist content online.Source: HackRead
