As reported by Bleeping Computer, the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) has resumed normal operations nine days after a significant ransomware attack disrupted its IT systems and blocked access to electronic medical records, impacting patient care across the state. The cyberattack, which began on a Thursday afternoon, forced UMMC to cancel outpatient procedures, ambulatory surgeries, and imaging appointments. Medical teams implemented downtime procedures to ensure continuity of care, but the patient care mission was disproportionately affected. Phone lines were also impacted. UMMC confirmed it restored access to patient records and planned to reopen clinics the following Monday, offering extended hours to accommodate patients. While no ransomware group has claimed responsibility, UMMC officials confirmed they were in communication with the attackers and are cooperating with the FBI and the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) in the investigation.Source: Bleeping Computer
