Uber hires Miller, Valasek after Jeep hack

Share

On the heels of Charlie Miller resigning his post at Twitter and noting he was “stepping down from protecting the tweets,” Uber has hired Miller, a former National Security Agency (NSA) analyst, and his cohort Chris Valasek, from IOActive, after they hacked into and commandeered a Jeep Cherokee in July.

That effort by the two security researchers, known for their dedication to and prowess in launching cyber attacks on automobiles, pushed Chrysler to recall 1.4 million vehicles to fix a vulnerability. In a Friday tweet, Miller said he was “looking forward to starting Tuesday with the great team at @Uber Advanced Technology Center.” Uber engineering lead and Twitter alum Raffi Krikorian tweeted he was “excited” to welcome the pair to Uber.

The company recently said it was planning to grow its security team from 25 to more than 100 members.
