The United States hosts the highest number of command-and-control (C&C) servers operating botnets, according to anti-virus company McAfee. America topped the list of countries hosting botnet hubs around the globe, with 631 active servers here. Benjamin Cruz, a researcher at McAfee, blogged about the findings last Wednesday. Runner-up hosts included the British Virgin Islands, with 237, and the Netherlands, hosting 154. To determine the numbers, McAfee analyzed its network of millions of endpoint devices and network security appliances, as well as malicious binary and information gathered through research.
