Twilio exec calls for real-time AI identity overhaul

Twilio Senior Director of Product Management Anurag Dodeja writes that the rapid rise of agentic AI and emerging artificial general intelligence is redefining the foundations of digital identity and authentication, according to TechRadar.

As enterprises adopt AI assistants across most applications by 2026, Dodeja warns that traditional "human-only" identity models are no longer sufficient. He argues that organizations must build a real-time trust engine capable of distinguishing between humans, trusted AI agents, and malicious bots through continuous context, behavioral signals, and dynamic authorization.

Dodeja highlights challenges of accountability, questioning who is liable when autonomous agents act beyond their scope. He cites Google's Agents Payment Protocol as a step toward transparent, traceable agent activity.

To address identity sprawl, he urges a unified platform that integrates verification, consent, and behavioral analytics. Ultimately, Dodeja says, digital identity must evolve into a growth enabler that strengthens security, trust, and personalized engagement in an AI-driven world.
