SecurityWeek reports that major U.S. end-of-life care provider Vitas Healthcare was noted by the Department of Health and Human Services to have had data from 319,177 current and former patients compromised in a cyberattack.Infiltration of certain Vitas systems through a breached vendor account from Sep. 21 to Oct. 27 allowed the theft of individuals' names, birthdates, addresses, phone numbers, Social Security numbers, driver's license numbers, insurance information, medical details, and their next of kin's contact details, said Vitas in a statement on its breach notice site late last month.Additional details on the intrusion that impacted Vitas remain uncertain but no ransomware operation has so far claimed responsibility for the attack. Such a development comes after Pennsylvania-based optical care provider Tri-Century Eye Care was reported to have had information from almost 200,000 people exposed following a September breach that had been claimed by the Pear ransomware gang.
