Snapchat has updated its app for Android and iOS devices to include some new security features.
Snapchatters can now opt out of linking their phone numbers with their usernames by going into ‘settings' and clicking on ‘mobile #,' according to a short post on the company website, which also explains that users are required to verify phone numbers before using the Find Friends Service.
“Our team continues to make improvements to the Snapchat service to prevent future attempts to abuse our API,” Team Snapchat wrote in the post.
The update is one the company promised a week ago, after a group of unknown individuals took advantage of a vulnerability in the popular messaging app's application programming interface (API) and stole a database of 4.6 million usernames and phone numbers.
