Popular technology news and review site CNET was hacked this weekend in an attack that might have compromised the account information of more than one million users.
A Russian group named W0rm accessed the site's servers through its Symfony PHP framework, a programming tool that helps developers create websites, according to a CNET article. A spokeswoman for CBS Interactive, the site's owner, said the group accessed “a few servers,” that stored usernames, emails and encrypted passwords.
Although the hacker group tweeted that it would sell its database of passwords for 1 Bitcoin, or $623, it later said it would not complete a sale or decrypt the passwords.
The group claims to have hacked the BBC late last year, as well as Adobe Systems and Bank of America websites.
