Resemble AI unveils deepfake detection tools amid synthetic media surge

Security Brief United Kingdom reports that Resemble AI has released a deepfake threat report and two free detection tools: a Chrome extension for scanning image, video, and audio content, and an X bot that allows users to verify suspicious posts without leaving the platform.

The company also introduced corporate features, including multimodal watermarking, a zero-retention mode for sensitive media, and reverse image search to identify synthetic content without a prior digital footprint. The tools arrive as concern grows over AI-generated media; Resemble AI cited Europol estimates that up to 90% of online content could contain AI-generated material by the end of 2026.

The company's threat report recorded 1,567 verified deepfake incidents in 2025 from 3,253 news stories, with non-consensual intimate imagery and child sexual abuse material accounting for 20% of cases. Nearly $1.3 billion in confirmed fraud losses were linked to generative AI deepfakes. CEO Zohaib Ahmed said the industry has focused on making synthetic media realistic, but multimodal generative AI security is now foundational for enterprises and everyday people navigating a world where more content is synthetic.
