A malicious application named Padre Terminal, which previously appeared on the Apple App Store, was identified as a cryptocurrency drainer responsible for stealing approximately $23,000 from 27 Solana wallets, according to a recent report by Bleeping Computer.
The fraudulent app targeted users by masquerading as a legitimate trading platform for meme coins on the Solana blockchain. Once users imported their private keys into the interface, the app drained their digital assets. Although the official Padre service operates exclusively as a web-based platform, the malicious mobile version successfully deceived users before its removal from the App Store. Blockchain investigator Iris tracked the stolen funds to a specific Solana address, noting that the attacker converted assets into SOL to prevent potential recovery. Beyond this incident, researchers identified at least four other suspicious applications on the platform, including those impersonating GMGN AI and Axiom. These apps often utilize deceptive descriptions to appear legitimate while hiding malicious functionality. Security experts advise users to verify application authenticity by navigating directly from official project websites and exercising caution with apps that lack reputable developer credentials. This trend highlights ongoing challenges in mobile application security and the persistent threat of sophisticated financial scams targeting cryptocurrency investors.
