Report: Stolen card data is crime that concerns Americans most

Americans worry about their credit card information being hacked more than any other crime, according to a recent Gallup Poll.

Of the 1,000-plus adults surveyed, 69 percent claimed credit card information stolen by hackers as their top worry, while compromised computers or smartphones came in as the second biggest worry, according to the Crime poll which was conducted from October 12 to 15.

This is the first year that Gallup included questions regarding stolen card data or compromised computers or smartphones. These two crimes topped a list of others that included having one's home burglarized (45 percent), a car stolen or broken into (42 percent) and getting murdered (18 percent).

Of those surveyed, 27 percent indicated that they have had information hacked, but only 45 percent of those say they have reported it to the police.
