Olympique Marseille confirms cyberattack after data breach claims

As reported by Bleeping Computer, French football club Olympique de Marseille has confirmed it was the target of a cyberattack, following claims by a threat actor that they had breached the club's systems and stolen sensitive data.

The threat actor claims to have accessed servers containing information on approximately 400,000 individuals, including names, addresses, email addresses, and phone numbers. The stolen data allegedly also includes over 2,050 Drupal CMS accounts, impacting staff and contributors. Olympique de Marseille stated that their technical teams and specialized providers quickly brought the situation under control, and all activities are continuing normally and securely. They assured supporters that no banking details or passwords were compromised.

The club has reported the incident to the French data protection authority (CNIL) and advised fans to be vigilant against phishing attempts. This incident follows a similar data breach at the French Football Federation in November, highlighting a concerning trend of cyberattacks targeting prominent sports organizations.
