Okta introduces new shadow AI agent discovery features

Attackers leverage stolen credential to access Okta’s support case management system

As outlined in Silicon Angle, Okta Inc. has introduced new features designed to address the growing challenge of "shadow AI" within organizations. These additions aim to provide enterprises with greater visibility and control over artificial intelligence agents, particularly those operating outside of IT oversight.

Okta's new Agent Discovery feature, part of its Identity Security Posture Management (ISPM) offering, allows organizations to identify and map unvetted AI agents. This addresses the rise of shadow AI, where employees use unsanctioned AI tools, often leveraging OAuth grants to exfiltrate data. A Gartner report indicates that 69% of organizations have seen employees use prohibited generative AI tools, with a prediction that over 40% of enterprises will face security or compliance incidents linked to unauthorized shadow AI by 2030.

The feature detects agents built on unsanctioned platforms, identifies OAuth consents, and alerts users to unknown agents with access to critical data. Okta ISPM will also secure non-human identities across various platforms and plans to expand discovery capabilities to AI platforms like Microsoft Copilot Studio and Salesforce Agentforce.
