Reported by Defensescoop. The Army is set to launch Project Gatekeeper later this month, an initiative designed to accelerate the integration of defense vendors' software into the service's network by leveraging artificial intelligence for code vetting.
Project Gatekeeper, scheduled to begin Oct. 23 and led by Acting Chief Information Officer Gabe Chiulli, aims to reduce the software accreditation process from months to minutes. Companies will be able to submit their code for AI-driven assessment in an isolated environment, receiving rapid feedback on compliance with cybersecurity requirements. This initiative is part of a broader Army effort to lower barriers for industry partners without compromising security. Chiulli acknowledged past cumbersome processes, stating Gatekeeper will provide a monitored framework for code submission. The goal is to allow vendors to deliver value more quickly by streamlining the Authority to Operate (ATO) process, which has historically been a significant hurdle. Companies can submit code for AI scanning even before being under contract. The Army is also collaborating with the General Services Administration to integrate its sign-on service by mid-November, enhancing commercial accessibility.
