NCT breach compromises info on 15,085 new and expectant parents

A breach at the National Childbirth Trust (NCT) in the U.K. compromised the information of 15,085 users.

The incident “regrettably, has caused some users of our website to have their registration details compromised,” an NTC spokesperson confirmed in a statement cited by the BBC. "These details are limited to their email address, username and an encrypted version of the password that they created to register on the site.”

The spokesperson emphasized that the breach did not expose financial or personal  data and that the charity, which supports new and expectant parents, had notified potential victims.

"We discovered the breach (on Wednesday), upon which we contacted everyone affected advising them of the breach and suggesting that they change their username and passwords," he said.

NCT Chief Executive Nick Wilkie urged parents in a letter to take precautions, the BBC said. "While your password is encrypted, as a precaution, I would advise you to change any password as soon as possible for other accounts or registrations that use these details,” wrote Wilkie.
