Microsoft fixes Windows Autopatch bug affecting EU devices

Microsoft has resolved a bug within its Windows Autopatch service that led to the unintended deployment of driver updates on some Windows devices in the European Union. The issue specifically impacted devices managed by Autopatch where administrative policies were in place to restrict driver updates, based on information published by Bleeping Computer.

The bug affected a limited number of Windows 11 devices (versions 25H2, 24H2, and 23H2) within the EU region. These devices received recommended driver updates automatically, bypassing IT administrator policies that required manual approval. This unexpected deployment could lead to system instability, including reboots and, in some instances, system failures, depending on the specific drivers installed.

Microsoft has implemented a service-side fix, meaning no action is required from customers to resolve the issue. This incident follows another recent fix for a bug that caused unexpected upgrades to Windows Server 2025 and an ongoing issue affecting Office installations on Windows 365 devices.
