Texas-based financial services provider Marquis Software Solutions has confirmed that data from 672,075 individuals had been compromised as a result of an August data breach that was previously reported to have affected at least 74 banks, financial entities, and credit unions, according to The Record, a news site by cybersecurity firm Recorded Future.

Investigation into the incident revealed the theft of files, including names, birthdates, phone numbers, addresses, Social Security numbers, Taxpayer Identification Numbers, and financial account details, said Marquis in regulatory filings. Such a disclosure comes after various banks hit by the hack emphasized that only Marquis-stored data had been affected, with one of the impacted firms' employees detailing that Marquis offered customer relationship tools enabling bank employees to monitor the kind of accounts customers hold and promote additional financial products.

Meanwhile, Iowa-based Community 1st Credit Union, in a deleted breach notice, accused Marquis of having paid the demanded ransom, reported cybersecurity firm Comparitech.
