TechCrunch reports that SonicWall has been sued by Texas-based financial services provider Marquis Software Solutions following a ransomware attack, which has been pinned on a breach of its firewall provider. In its complaint, which seeks a jury trial, Marquis alleges that the 2025 breach at SonicWall "exposed critical security information for Marquis and every customer that used SonicWall's firewall cloud backup service."Marquis claimed that attackers used firewall configuration details stolen from SonicWall, including emergency passcodes, to access its internal network and deploy ransomware. The cause of the SonicWall breach has not been publicly confirmed, but Marquis alleges in its complaint that a February 2025 code change to one of SonicWall's APIs "created a vulnerability exploitable by threat actors.""While we were able to secure our network and client data quickly, our investigation revealed that our exposure to threat actors was due to SonicWall's network breach and failure to notify us that our firewall protection was potentially compromised," Marquis Chief Executive Satin Mirchandani said in a statement.
