Russell Cellular, which is a leading Verizon authorized retailer in the U.S., had over 6.3 million customer records claimed to be compromised by hackers, who are peddling the dataset for $1,200, Cybernews reports.

Allegedly included in the almost 61 GB Russell Cellular data trove were sensitive customer information, such as full names, phone numbers, email addresses, account numbers, invoice and tracking numbers, device identifiers, contract details, and selected tariff plans, as well as employees' credentials and access roles, said the attacker in a post on a data leak site.

"This is more dangerous to company employees. Credentials can be used to compromise internal systems, and possible credential stuffing attacks if employees reused the same passwords somewhere else. Also, there's a risk of reconnaissance and social engineering attacks for both customers and employees," said Cybernews researchers.

Such a development follows a series of data breaches impacting Verizon, with the Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters hacking collective most recently claiming the hack of the U.S. telecommunications provider and other global organizations.
