Bleeping Computer reports that Loblaw Companies Limited, Canada's largest food and pharmacy retailer, has announced a data breach affecting basic customer information following a cyberattack on its IT network.

The breach was discovered after Loblaw detected suspicious activity on a contained, non-critical segment of its network. Hackers gained access to basic customer data, including names, phone numbers, and email addresses. While the company stated that financial information, health data, and account passwords were not compromised, the exposed personal identifiable information could be used for phishing and fraudulent activities.

Loblaw has automatically logged out all customers from their accounts and advises them to reset passwords. The retailer operates approximately 2,500 stores nationwide and employs 220,000 people.
