Jaguar Land Rover breach affects staff, contractor info

Jaguar Land Rover had information from current and former employees, as well as its contractors, stolen following a major cyberattack in August, according to The Record, a news site by cybersecurity firm Recorded Future.

Additional details regarding the intrusion, which was previously associated with the Scattered Spider hacking group, were not provided. However, JLR detailed that attackers were able to pilfer staff data concerning payroll, benefits, and other schemes that also cover their dependents. While there has been no indication of any misuse of the exfiltrated information, the British automaker has urged impacted individuals to be vigilant of phishing emails.

"We are committed to supporting all current and former employees, and contractors, through this period and we have set up a help line and arranged for access to credit and/or identity monitoring services," said JLR. Such a disclosure from JLR comes after the attack, which has led to a production shutdown of over a month, was pegged to have led to $2.5 billion in losses to the UK economy.
