Israeli population registry data from 2005 resurfaces on dark web

A seller on a prominent leak forum is offering what they claim is Israel's 2026 national population registry, containing 9.2 million records. However, investigations by Ransomnews reveal the data is authentic but originates from 2005, with further coverage provided by Security Affairs.

The vendor, identified as "Gordon Freeman," advertised a 7.5 GB database allegedly containing national ID numbers, addresses, phone numbers, birth and death dates, and family links for nearly all Israeli citizens. While technical analysis confirmed the authenticity of the records, including mathematical check digits and familial clustering, all date fields consistently stopped in 2005. This indicates the data is not a current registry but likely a resurfaced version of the "Agron 2006" database, which was a copy of the population registry stolen in 2006.

Despite the seller's claims of more recent data, further examination of the provided "tail end" records also showed a 2005 cutoff. Although the data is not new, the permanent identifiers within the records, such as national ID numbers and birthdates, remain valuable for identity theft and social engineering, posing a persistent security risk.
