Critical Infrastructure Security

Iran war yet to trigger increased cyberattacks against US, says CISA official

The U.S. was noted by Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency Acting Director Nick Andersen to have yet to face intensified Iranian cyber intrusions in the wake of the joint U.S.-Israel missile strikes against the country late last month, reports The Record, a news site by cybersecurity firm Recorded Future.

"We're seeing a steady state we have not seen a rise in threat actor activity, which is fantastic, but again we can't take our eyes off. Other adversaries continue to make maneuvers within this space, cybercriminal groups continue to make moves within this space it's not just about one nation state or one particular point of time," said Andersen, who also noted ongoing coordination with industry- and sector-based groups on Iranian threats, on the sidelines of the McCrary Cyber Summit.

Aside from helping with Michigan-based medical device maker Stryker in its recovery efforts following an attack by Iran-linked Handala hacktivists, CISA is also working to better address AI-powered cyberattacks and accelerate remediation of security vulnerabilities, Andersen added.
