Insider breaches aimed at US firms escalate

Insider threats

Infosecurity Magazine reports that insider data breaches have been experienced by 61% of organizations across the U.S. during the last two years, with impacted businesses having eight incidents on average leading to the compromise of confidential information.

Reduced employee productivity, customer data loss, and lower workplace productivity were the primary adverse effects of insider breaches, which have cost $2.7 million on average, according to an OPSWAT-sponsored Ponemon Institute report.

Moreover, file storage systems, including on-prem and network-attached storage devices, were most susceptible to insider attacks, followed by web file uploads, and downloads from Microsoft Teams and other software-as-a-service apps.

Additional findings revealed that generative artificial intelligence tools have been prohibited by 29% of organizations, while only a quarter had a formal GenAI policy in place. Nearly 60% have either integrated or plan to integrate AI within their file security strategy, more than half of which have noted that technology be very or highly effective in bolstering file security.
