Google uses Gemini AI to combat malicious ads

As reported by Bleeping Computer, Google is increasingly leveraging its Gemini AI models to detect and block harmful advertisements across its platforms, as threat actors continuously adapt their methods to circumvent existing security measures.

In 2025, Google blocked or removed 8.3 billion ads and suspended 24.9 million advertiser accounts, including 602 million ads associated with scams. Malvertising, a persistent issue, involves attackers using ads that impersonate legitimate brands to distribute malware, facilitate phishing, or steal cryptocurrency. These campaigns often employ cloaking and URL redirects to mimic trusted sites. Cybercriminals are now utilizing generative AI to create more sophisticated and large-scale deceptive ad operations.

Gemini AI analyzes billions of signals, including advertiser behavior and campaign patterns, to identify malicious content in real time, blocking harmful ads at submission, Google says. The company also says improvements to its AI models have reduced erroneous advertiser suspensions by 80%.
