FBI’s Epstein files reportedly compromised in 2023

The FBI was noted to have a server containing files related to financier and convicted child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein compromised in a 2023 cyberattack, ABC News reports.

Unauthorized access to the FBI's New York Child Exploitation and Human Trafficking Task Force server on Feb. 12, 2023, coinciding with Super Bowl Sunday, was said by a FBI agent to have resulted in the exposure of documents concerning the investigation into Epstein, according to files released by the Justice Department earlier this year in compliance with the Epstein Transparency Act. Illicit activity stemming from a pair of IP addresses had been discovered following a network compromise alert the following day, said the FBI agent, who noted immediate containment efforts after reporting the incident to his supervisor. Such efforts were emphasized by the FBI in a Wednesday statement.

"The FBI restricted access to the malicious actor and rectified the network. The investigation remains ongoing, so we do not have further comments to provide at this time," said the agency.
