FBI seizes major cybercrime forum LeakBase in international operation

The FBI logo is seen on its Washington headquarters

As reported by Bleeping Computer, the FBI has successfully seized LeakBase, a prominent cybercrime forum utilized for the exchange of hacking tools and stolen data. This action is part of a coordinated international effort known as Operation Leak, involving law enforcement from 14 countries.

The operation, led by Europol, saw the FBI and its international partners shut down LeakBase on March 3 and 4 by seizing its domains and posting seizure banners. Law enforcement agencies executed search warrants, made arrests, and conducted interviews across the United States and several European and Australian countries.

LeakBase, active since 2021 and supported by the ARES threat group, had amassed over 142,000 members. It offered a marketplace for leaks, exploits, and cybercrime services, alongside forums for hacking tips and guides. This seizure marks another success in the ongoing global crackdown on cybercrime infrastructure, following similar actions against platforms like RaidForums and BreachForums.
