Ex-Google engineers charged with trade secret theft and transfer to Iran

As reported by The Hacker News, two former Google engineers and one of their husbands have been indicted in the U.S. for allegedly committing trade secret theft from the search giant and other tech firms, transferring sensitive information to unauthorized locations, including Iran.

Samaneh Ghandali, 41, her husband Mohammadjavad Khosravi, 40, and her sister Soroor Ghandali, 32, all Iranian nationals residing in San Jose, are accused of conspiring to steal trade secrets related to mobile computer processors from Google and other companies. Both Ghandali sisters are former employees of Google.

The defendants allegedly used their employment to access confidential data, including processor security and cryptography information, and exfiltrated hundreds of files to third-party communication platforms and personal devices. They are also accused of destroying evidence, submitting false affidavits, and manually photographing sensitive documents to conceal their actions. Google stated it enhanced safeguards and alerted law enforcement upon discovery of the incident, with the trade secrets pertaining to the company's Tensor processor.
