England Hockey investigates potential data breach after AiLock ransomware claims

England Hockey is currently investigating a potential data breach following claims by the AiLock ransomware gang that they have compromised the organization's systems and exfiltrated 129GB of data. The threat actor has threatened to publish the stolen files unless a ransom is paid, according to a recent report by Bleeping Computer.

The AiLock ransomware gang has listed England Hockey as a victim on its data leak site, alleging the theft of 129GB of data. England Hockey has acknowledged the claims and launched an urgent investigation, engaging both internal teams and external cybersecurity experts to ascertain the extent of the incident. The organization, which oversees field hockey nationwide with over 800 clubs and 150,000 registered players, stated it cannot comment on specific details due to the ongoing inquiry.

AiLock is known for employing double-extortion tactics, giving victims a limited window to negotiate before leaking data or destroying recovery tools. The ransomware reportedly uses ChaCha20 and NTRUEncrypt to encrypt files, appending the .AILock extension.
