Elon Musk’s DOGE members accused of improper data access

Two members of Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) may have accessed and shared Social Security numbers in an effort to help an advocacy group overturn election results, according to court documents. This revelation comes as part of corrections to previous testimony by top Social Security Administration officials related to legal battles over DOGE's access to Social Security data, according to TechCrunch.

In March 2025, a political advocacy group reportedly contacted two DOGE members at the Social Security Administration (SSA) with a request to analyze state voter rolls they had acquired, with the stated aim of finding evidence of voter fraud and overturning election results. One DOGE member allegedly signed a "Voter Data Agreement" with the group. The DOGE members may have accessed private information previously ruled off-limits by a court and shared data on unapproved third-party servers. Emails suggest DOGE members could have been asked to assist the advocacy group by accessing SSA data to match to the voter rolls, though it remains unclear if data was ultimately shared.

The SSA has referred the two DOGE employees for potential violations of the Hatch Act, which prohibits federal workers from leveraging their official positions for political activities. This incident follows a federal judge's order last year to block DOGE members' access to SSA systems containing sensitive personal information, including Social Security numbers.
