Cyberattack compromises Hyundai AutoEver America data

Hyundai AutoEver America, the IT solutions supplier affiliate of Hyundai Motor Group, had individuals' personal details breached following a cyberattack against its IT environment earlier this year, according to BleepingComputer.

Infiltration of HAEA's systems between Feb. 22 and Mar. 2 exposed individuals' names, driver's licenses, and Social Security numbers, noted the firm's breach notice and the Massachusetts government portal. Additional details on the extent of the breach and whether the incident impacted employees and/or customers were not provided by HAEA.

No ransomware operation has laid claim to the intrusion so far. HAEA's disclosure comes after a slew of cyberattacks and cybersecurity lapses faced by the Hyundai Motor Group in recent years. Hyundai's European operations had its systems targeted by the Black Basta ransomware gang in early 2024, while data from its French and Italian customers was compromised the year before.

Significant security gaps have also been discovered in Hyundai and Kia's companion app and anti-theft systems.
