Cyberattack against Asahi may have impacted personal data

The Register reports that major Japanese brewery firm Asahi Group Holdings has disclosed the potential compromise of personal data following a cyberattack late last month, which has since been claimed by the Qilin ransomware operation.

After initially declaring the safety of customer and employee information, Asahi has discovered "traces" of possible unauthorized data transfers as a result of the Sept. 29 intrusion, which has disrupted domestic production and call center systems. Asahi has also deferred announcing quarterly financial results due to the attack.

"While the Company is making every effort to restore the system as quickly as possible, a timeline for full recovery cannot be provided at this time," said Asahi, which is still investigating the extent of the data breach.

Such a development comes after Qilin admitted to having pilfered nearly 27 GB of files from Asahi, including its financial records, contracts, employee details, forecasts, and contracts.
