Infosecurity Magazine reports that cyber-enabled fraud has been named by business leaders as their primary cybersecurity concern this year, surpassing ransomware intrusions.

Phishing attacks, including its SMS- and voice-enabled variants, were the most prevalent type of cyber fraud, followed by invoice or payment fraud, identity theft, and insider threats, according to the World Economic Forum's Global Cybersecurity Outlook for 2026 report released ahead of next week's annual meeting in Davos. Additional data revealed AI to be fueling accelerated cybersecurity risks.

Mounting AI-related vulnerabilities were reported by 87% of respondents, while 94% believe the technology to most significantly change the cybersecurity landscape this year. Such findings emphasize the importance of coordinated action against cybersecurity risk, which has become a "strategic, economic, and societal concern."

"...[B]uilding a secure digital future requires more than technical solutions. It calls for decisive leadership, shared accountability, and a commitment to lifting the collective baseline ensuring that resilience is accessible to all, not just the most well-resourced," said the report.
