Hybrid cryptocurrency mixing service Cryptomixer, which facilitated laundering of illicit proceeds from ransomware attacks and other criminal activities, has been dismantled by Swiss and German police as part of Operation Olympia between Nov. 24 and 28, reports BleepingComputer. Apart from nabbing Cryptomixer's three servers and cryptomixer.io domain, Operation Olympia which also involved Europol and Eurojust also sequestered 24 million worth of Bitcoin. "[Cryptomixer's] software blocked the traceability of funds on the blockchain, making it the platform of choice for cybercriminals seeking to launder illegal proceeds from a variety of criminal activities, such as drug trafficking, weapons trafficking, ransomware attacks, and payment card fraud," said Europol. Such a development comes weeks after Samorai Wallet crypto mixer founders Keonne Rodriguez and William Lonergan were jailed by the U.S. over helping facilitate the laundering of more than $237 million. Operators of the Blender.io and Sinbad.io crypto mixers have also been indicted by the U.S. over assisting North Korean hackers and ransomware operations earlier this year.
