Congressman asks Issa for hearing on CHS breach

Share

Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.), has penned a letter to House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chair Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) requesting a hearing regarding the data breach at Community Health Systems.

Cummings, the Committee's ranking Democrat, said a hearing would help members "learn about the security vulnerabilities they [testifiers] have experienced…to better protect our federal information assets.”

The Maryland Representative noted that the Committee, in the past year, has amassed more than a million pages of documents, transcribed 18 interviews and heard testimony from federal agencies and private contractors in numerous public hearings as part of its ongoing investigation of the security of Healthcare.gov.

“No personally identifiable information has been compromised as a result of malicious cyber attacks, although outside actors have repeatedly tried,” he wrote. In the CHS breach, however, hackers “stole data on 4.5 million patients.”
