Broadcom unveils VMware Telco Cloud Platform 9

Broadcom has announced the upcoming VMware Telco Cloud Platform 9, designed as a private cloud solution specifically for telecommunications providers, integrating sovereign cloud controls and AI workload capabilities, reports Telco News Asia.

Revealed at Mobile World Congress 2026, the platform will incorporate telco-specific functions to support both 4G/5G core networks and AI applications. Paul Turner, Chief Product Officer, emphasized the platform helps address rising hardware costs, claiming operators can achieve significant savings through features like Advanced NVMe Memory Tiering and vSAN ESA Global Deduplication. The "AI-native" platform includes planned capabilities for Private AI-as-a-Service, GPU virtualization, and multi-tenant GPU resource sharing.

A key focus is sovereign compliance, with architectural elements designed to keep subscriber data within jurisdictional boundaries and give operators exclusive control over encryption keys. The platform also features automated lifecycle management, an Agent Builder Service for low-code AI agent development, and enhanced security controls, including confidential computing support and micro-segmentation. Industry partners BT, Nokia, and Canonical expressed support, highlighting the platform's flexibility and automation benefits for telecom operations facing increasing regulatory and efficiency pressures.
