Doubts have been raised on the legitimacy of the supposed breach of a Dell database containing over 5,000 records, including emails from more than 2,000 employees, according to Cybernews. While the compromised emails were touted to be connected to social media accounts, analysis of the data sample revealed that at least a fifth of the 21 emails provided were fake, indicating a possible exaggeration of the breach's extent, said the Cybernews research team. Also adding suspicion to the veracity of the leak was the attacker's ShinyCorporation moniker, which takes a cue from the notorious Scattered Lapsus$ Hunters hacking collective. Cybernews researchers warned that potentially legitimate emails included in the provided dataset could be leveraged for subsequent cyberattacks."At the same time, leaked IPs could be used for infrastructure reconnaissance. Moreover, if the internal URLs mentioned are real, they can be utilized for reconnaissance. There is also a risk of exposing source code and internal business operations," said researchers.
